Success Stories
SHYAMAL SIL
A 32 year old young man. In July 2001, he completed one year training course in Electrical House Wiring & Motor Winding from Don Bosco Self Employment Research Institute. Just after passing the Higher Secondary (Commerce) in 2000, he enrolled for training in DBSERI. He came to know about the non-formal course from his two sisters who had completed training in tailoring from this same institute.
His father had business of selling coal and joining his father's business was the only option open to Shyamal had he not joined the non-formal course in DBSERI. His father had to support a big family (of 7 children) and the family's financial incapacity prevented the children to go for further studies after Madhyamik/Higher Secondary.
In those years the main buildings of DBSERI were under construction. There was shortage of space and equipments were not enough. Shyamal suggested that the course period should have been for two years for the same syllabus. Otherwise he found the training very useful.
Since the beginning Shyamal was interested in being self employed. After working for some years under contractors, he opened his own shop 3 years back, where he does fan coil winding and house wiring contracts. He has two full time employees. Shyamal's average income per month is around Rs.15000/-
Shyamal confessed that whatever he is today, it is all because of DBSERI.
MILAN MONDAL
A 22 years old young man working as a junior engineer in Sikkim . Son of a very poor farmer and living in Bongaon he had passed Madhyamik in 2006. Hearing from the parish priest about DBSERI, he enrolled in the 3 year Civil Engineering Technician (CET) Course the same year and successfully completed the course in June 2009. He got an immediate placement with TUSCON ENGINEERS (I) PVT. LTD. at Champa in Chattisgarh. The Company was working on construction of commercial buildings. Milan worked in TUSCON for 6 months and in July 2010 left for Gangtok ( Sikkim ) to join a better job and he is still continuing there. He now earns more than Rs.10,000/- per month and is responsible for billing, site engineering work and drawing plans. He is a very ambitious man and is on lookout for better offers.
Had he not been at DBSERI, then what would he have been? As a school boy he had the ambition to become a doctor (he scored 73% in Madhyamik), but family's financial incapacity did not allow his dreams come true. At that moment, admission to CET course in DBSERI was the only option open to him in order to see himself self-reliant after a couple of years. He may not have become a doctor, but he could become a junior engineer and if he can study further (higher level engineering courses in any Engineering College ), then he can definitely become a qualified engineer.
AVLOK BHARATI
A Mobile Lab Engineer in Ultratech Cement. He is just 22 years old and earns a monthly salary of Rs.17000/-. He was Higher Secondary (Science) passed when he came to DBSERI from Patna to join the CET course in 2006.
He had come to know about DBSERI from one of his friends who stayed in Liluah.
He owes his success to DBSERI for the technical knowledge, proficiency in English and interest in Technical Education.
Avlok is also studying B.Tech (IGNOU).
DHIRAJ KUMAR PRASAD
A 24 year old youth trained in Electric House Wiring and Motor Winding. He completed the training from DBSERI in July 2008 and is now working in the power maintenance department of Tata Towers . He is in charge of 40 mobile phone towers spread over three districts of West Bengal, namely Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas.
He was only a Madhyamik passed when he joined DBSERI in July 2008. He took admission in Class XI in 2007 but was not interested to continue. Since his childhood he was interested to be an electrician and DBSERI helped in realizing his dreams.
He is earning a gross salary of Rs. 11,000/- p.m. and is satisfied with his career. He had found the training at DBSERI, particularly on maintenance, to be very helpful. His job responsibilities include identifying the problems related to power and accordingly contact the power suppliers.
Presently he is not interested in self employment. He may think of it in future, if circumstances are favourable.
